Anti-musings

From time to time I spend some- no, a lot of time wandering aimlessly around the net, as I'm sure you all do. Occasionally I come upon something really good which I instantly bookmark and then forget for some months, until I finally come back checking what it was that I spotted and liked in the first place and if it's still there.
I spent last month trying to gather a disco and italo set for a special occasion I happened to DJ to and I was approximating at least 12 hours per day going through CDs and hard disks, listening to tracks (some I even didn't knew I had them), organizing everything, etc. It was really fun but I had nowhere to practice, still it went rather well. But I got tired.
The thing is, I'm bored of music now ("HERESY!!! HERESY!!!"). It's only dub and some ambient stuff I can tolerate at low volume. So I'm looking for books as well as films, clips, visual stuff in general. Whenever I find something exciting, instead of dumping it in my bookmarks I'll just drop the link here. I still have some posts half-ready, by the time I finish with them and post them I hope I'll be able to cope with music again.

> I'm bored of music now

It happens. When ever this awful feeling descends upon me I just explore a new genre (e.g. mathrock, dark ambient, 16th century lute music (honestly, John Dowland rocks!))

Anyway, your blog's much appreciated - you make an effort to write down some thoughts of your own, and your musical taste is very coherent and principled - so keep up the good work!

Btw, thanx for your presence around here.
You know, it's not the first time...
Once it took me about six months to listen to music with beat at home. Weird thing is I did some of my best sets that period and I hadn't studied half the records I was playing.
Another weird thing at these times is that I NEVER have a problem to listen to old Hardwax stuff, which I normally don't do in 'normal' time (because how many times can u hear 'Showcase' AGAIN?)

So for me it's more of a go-back case, I revert to some basic stuff like Eno or some '80s dark stuff I grew up to. Ha, last time I went through the entire Black Sabbath discog (thank the net for that). When it ends, THEN I get on with a new style.

"Principled"?!?!?! Never been called that before...

What's the 80s dark stuff you grew up to? I can't imagine.

Principled in the sense it is abundantly clear you are no slave to the absurd fashions in electronic music.

In my (difficult) late teens it was the Sisters, Bauhaus, 4AD stuff, the whole Nyman/Glass thing and a lot of guitar bands like Spacemen 3, Jesus & Mary Chain, Pixies, etc. And indie pop. And that's why I have a soft spot for melancholic stuff from Cologne. Back earlier it was punk & metal...
It doesn't sound coherent, right?

Oh I see. Well that makes a lot of sense actually, given the dark edge a lot of stuff on this blog has got - it makes a great deal more sense than if you had been listening to 80s soul, hip hop and proto-balearic uplifting stuff. To me at least it does.
